3 unspecified NY Mets roster additions they’ll definitely make in November

The Mets won't add star power in November. They will fill in a few pieces.

November is the first full month of the MLB offseason yet hardly the most exciting. The first two weeks are the trailer for what lies ahead. It’s not until those final two weeks when things begin to move a little more quickly. Rarely have the New York Mets made significant roster moves in the early part of the month. Usually by the time we realize Thanksgiving is a week away, the big trades or free agent signings will happen.

Like they have in the last two years, we should expect the bigger moves to happen in December. That doesn’t mean November will be a complete bore. For sure, the Mets are going to make these three unspecified roster moves.

Expect these types of Mets roster additions coming in November

1) The Mets will claim a nearly 30-year-old infielder with minimal MLB experience

We haven’t seen the last of the Mets claiming Luis De Los Santos, Donovan Walton, or Zack Short. Those specific players are probably not coming to the Mets. Someone of their same ilk will undoubtedly get claimed off of waivers.

One verse of David Stearns’ mantra includes insurance-level players like this whose sole purpose will be to give the team added defensive depth. Who will it be this year and will his 2025 batting average make our skin crawl?

2) The Mets will sign a veteran to a minor league deal and he’ll be one of their best pitchers in 2026

It was October when the Mets signed Chris Devenski. In November, they added Rico Garcia to the organization. One could make an argument that both were significant albeit sparingly used players this past year.

Although it didn’t work out both in length and production, the Mets also added Genesis Cabrera in the latter part of November. November is clearly a month to add players of their ilk. Many looking for an opportunity to get back to the major leagues will gladly take a minor league deal.

3) The Mets add to their outfield depth and we wonder how the player will even fit in

The Mets added a lot to their depth chart last year in the form of center field protection. Aside from the ill-fated trade for Jose Siri, they signed Rafael Ortega to a minor league deal. You may remember him most from the 2023 Mets–if you remember much about the final two months of that season.

Center field is one of the most difficult positions to fill with the Mets needing a boost bigger than a Siri or Ortega at some point. In some format, they’re going to bring in a name we recognize to join the center field mix and do it early on. The plan is for Carson Benge to take over within a few months. Someone disposable with either superb defense and/or ability to mash pitchers of one handedness makes the most sense.
