Mets trades by David Stearns we hope will party on to better things

Gregory Soto, B, 2025

Gregory Soto had some good times and some lousy ones in his brief time with the Mets. We don’t yet know the full scale of what it’s going to turn into. At the moment, we’re at a 2 on the pain scale only because we have yet to recover from how the 2025 finished. Check back in a year to see if we have new symptoms or have fully recovered. It’ll depend on how the prospects the Baltimore Orioles acquired are doing.

Ryne Stanek - B, 2024

Another reminder, this is the Ryne Stanek from the Seattle Mariners for Rhylan Thomas trade and not the free agent signing. Those are two different beasts. Stanek for Thomas was a good deal because the latter was never going to crack the Mets roster for any amount of significant playing time. A trustworthy postseason is what helped push this up to a B. His regular season wasn’t so good for the Mets and probably the red flag Stearns should have seen to avoid re-signing him.

Tyler Rogers - B, 2025

I wanted to give this a worse grade, but let’s be real. Do we really know if Drew Gilbert or Blade Tidwell will be anything special? Tyler Rogers was great for the Mets when used properly (without men already on base for him). He was the upgrade over Jose Butto that they needed. At a high-cost, the Mets got a nice reward.
