Freddy Peralta from the Brewers: B+

You can really like a trade and also acknowledge the worries with it. Acquiring Freddy Peralta from the Milwaukee Brewers was necessary. At the cost of Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams, you can have your concerns. Add in Tobias Myers and suddenly the scales are tipped more evenly.

The Brewers definitely have a chance to come away looking like the winners here. If Peralta is only in New York for a year, it’s going to feel like a larger overpay. Even if Myers is an effective swingman for the Mets in 2026 and 2027, seeing Sproat and Williams thrive for Milwaukee is going to sting.

No thievery took place in this trade. The Mets paid a large value for the best starting pitcher who changed teams this offseason. This is probably one of those trades remembered best for helping out both ball clubs immensely. The Brewers, along with shedding some salary, have two key players who should contribute this coming year. Williams is probably going to take a few more months.

Any blockbuster like this has the potential to swing one direction in a major way. It’s doubtful this one goes terribly wrong for the Mets simply because of how proven Peralta is and how much of a requirement it was to land him. What’s more, with Myers around, Sproat’s role is kind of moot for the coming year. A large part of this trade will hinge upon what Williams becomes and if the Mets find alternative solutions in center field like A.J. Ewing or maybe even just sliding Carson Benge over there once Robert is gone.
