It’s MLB trade deadline day. All hands on deck for the New York Mets. Did you save up your PTO? I hope your medical coverage is good because you’re going to need carpal tunnel surgery after all of that clicking of the refresh button. How, as a species, have we not evolved to the point of having more robotic limbs? Furthermore, why is healthcare the biggest criminal organization in the country?

The Mets have been one of baseball’s most aggressive ball clubs. They’ve possibly filled every need they could in the bullpen with a chance to do more before the day is over. What more could they bring to Queens? Trades for these five players (or positions) would make the most sense.

5) Brandon Lowe

Rumors of the Mets’ desire to add Brandon Lowe to the roster have been some of the more surprising this month. The Tampa Bay Rays are doing a softer sell with the possibility to go a little larger with players like Lowe.

Lowe is a bad defensive second baseman, but that’s not such a bad thing when they have a pretty wide open DH situation against right-handed pitching. If the Mets wanted to, they could have Lowe be the solution to a missing Jesse Winker. He’s a bad defender but a more useful one anyway. A second baseman with past experience in the outfield, Lowe’s value comes from his underrated power bat.

Prying him away from the Rays may end up requiring the largest haul of all because of his team option for next season. Tampa Bay is selling, but the urgency to deal him away just isn’t there at the moment. Let’s not rule it out, though. The team had 3 hits on Wednesday. They clearly need a bat.
