3) Jack Wenninger
Jack Wenninger made a name for himself last year in a full 26-start campaign in Double-A. Unnoticeable until this past year, he might be the best pitching prospect they have who has yet to debut in the majors. Will Watson currently ranks ahead of him, but Wenninger fired together, in my opinion, the better season.
At 12-6 with a 2.92 ERA, Wenninger put together the type of standout season few saw coming. He had a 4.30 ERA the season prior in A-Ball, putting up better strikeout numbers but getting tagged for a lot more runs per innings pitched.
Wenninger currently ranks as MLB Pipeline’s 13th best Mets prospect, creating a tall hill for him to climb. However, with several graduates and possibly a few subtractions, he should be able to cut the total in half.
As long as he doesn’t suffer the same fate as many Mets pitching prospects who seem to fall off a cliff when they arrive in Syracuse, Wenninger lines up well to be a late-season consideration for the ball club. There is always a chance the team uses him as an offseason of trade deadline chip to improve the MLB roster. Kade Morris is an example of someone who was taken a few rounds before Wenninger in 2023 that ended up dealt the following summer. Unfortunately, it was for Paul Blackburn. Hopefully this time around, if Wenninger doesn’t make it another year with the organization, it’s in a package for someone more impactful.
