Christian Scott will get the call-up on Thursday to pitch his first MLB game since 2024. It’s the latest move by the New York Mets to make things right, pushing aside Kodai Senga for a few days in favor of a young up-and-coming arm.

Ignore the 5.27 ERA. Scott had a poor debut and two stronger starts since. In celebration of his upcoming promotion, a few of his Syracuse Mets teammates in Triple-A made a thunderous case to join him sooner than later.

Three Mets prospects who said “how about me?” with a big day on Tuesday

1) Jonah Tong

The up-and-down nature of Jonah Tong’s career since his MLB promotion late last year has made him difficult to pinpoint. Is he ace material, a future reliever, or something less? Whichever it is, he responded well on Tuesday by going 5.1 innings and striking out 9. Allowing 4 hits, a walk, and only one run, it was a promising statement by Tong who, if this continues, could be the next one the Mets call upon for some starting pitching help. There’s already a question as to how the Mets will handle their current staff. David Peterson and Sean Manaea in the bullpen is not ideal.

2) Ryan Clifford

Watch out, Ryan Clifford is getting hot. A 2 for 5 day with a 6th inning grand slam, Clifford the power-hitting prospect is figuring out Triple-A pitching. He went into Saturday’s doubleheader without any dingers. While 3 home runs isn’t going to have the Mets suddenly demoting Brett Baty and asking Clifford to shine in the majors, the flashier numbers he puts up (especially power) will be tough to ignore when the Mets have obvious space available at first base and in right field.

3) Ronny Mauricio

It’s amazing that Ronny Mauricio didn’t have a perfect day. Going 3 for 4 with 5 RBI, all of his hits landed over the outfield wall. Merciless in this game, he now has 6 home runs and a 1.047 OPS. More days like this and the Mets will need to find a way to get him consistent major league at-bats. The trouble is that unless he plays first base there aren't too many of those opportunities, in particular with Juan Soto needing some days at the DH spot while he continues to get to 100%.
