The New York Mets are cruising through the early part of the season, setting the tone as one of the league’s most consistent teams. Meanwhile, a few prospects on the farm are starting to build their momentum, especially on the mound. Strikeouts are piling up, fastballs are popping, and arms are getting stronger with every start. The bats are still playing a little catch-up, but that’s no surprise in April when pitchers usually set the pace. Whether it’s a dominant stretch or an early-season challenge, a few names already give fans a reason to pay closer attention.

Jonathan Pintaro dominates in early 2025

Jonathan Pintaro, a 27-year-old right-hander, made an impressive leap through the Mets' system in 2024. After his contract was purchased from an independent Pioneer League team in June, Pintaro quickly earned a promotion, making 15 starts across three levels — from High-A Brooklyn to Triple-A Syracuse. He finished the season with a 2.68 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 75 strikeouts, and 28 walks in 74 innings, showcasing his ability to compete at each level.

Now starting the 2025 season with Double-A Binghamton, Pintaro has continued to impress. Over 15 1/3 innings, he’s posted a 2.93 ERA and 1.04 WHIP, with 22 strikeouts and seven walks. His most recent start, a dominant 5.2-inning, 9-strikeout performance against New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Saturday, is a sign of things to come. Pintaro’s continued development makes him one to watch as he looks to build on this strong start and keep climbing.

Jesus Baez is working through early-season struggles.

Jesús Báez, the Mets’ No. 7 prospect, was an international signing out of the Dominican Republic in 2022. He came into his own during the 2024 season, splitting time between Port St. Lucie and Brooklyn, where he hit .262 with a .782 OPS, adding 11 home runs and 43 RBIs across 72 games before a torn meniscus ended his year. Báez’s breakout performance helped put him firmly on the radar as one of the organization’s more exciting young bats heading into 2025.

Now back in Brooklyn after starting the season with Port St. Lucie, Báez is still working to get back into a groove. He’s batting just .179 with a .461 OPS, one home run, and three RBIs, managing seven hits in his first 44 at-bats since the promotion. Some early struggles aren’t unexpected after missing significant time, and Báez’s raw talent remains clear when he’s at the plate. With more at-bats, he should have a good chance to find his rhythm again.

Jonah Tong's strong start highlights 2025

Jonah Tong, a 21-year-old right-hander, was drafted by the Mets in the 7th round of the 2022 draft and had a breakout year in 2024. He pitched across three levels of the farm system, starting in Single-A Port St. Lucie, moving through Brooklyn, and finishing the season in Double-A Binghamton. Over 113 innings, Tong posted a 3.03 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, and an impressive 160 strikeouts, though control remained an issue with 47 walks. Despite the walks, his wide arsenal of high-level pitches — including a curveball, cut-slider, and changeup — made him one of the most promising arms in the system.

In 2025, Tong has continued his development with Binghamton, posting a 3.63 ERA and 1.33 WHIP over 17.1 innings, with 30 strikeouts. Walks have still been an issue, with 11 on the season, but his last two starts have been stellar. In his most recent outing on Sunday against New Hampshire, he threw 4 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, one walk, and striking out 10. With his electric stuff and a few adjustments to his command, Tong has all the tools to break through and make a real impact at higher levels soon.
