MLB Pipeline made a poorly-timed update to their top prospect lists, a little too late after the draft (not even including those players) and days before the MLB trade deadline. I suppose the goal is to give fans an idea of the type of talent they’ll be giving up or gaining. For the New York Mets, it’s the latter.
The updated Mets top prospect list included some big changes. We should expect even more by the time we get to August 4.
There wasn’t room aboard the life raft for everyone. One player, who ranked 17th at the start of the 2025 season, may have been overlooked.
Mets prospect Trey Snyder got snubbed by MLB Pipeline
Snyder was a fifth round pick in 2024 who was probably overrated at the start of 2025 when he was in the top 20. Now completely gone, it looks like the world has forgotten he exists.
A draft pick out of high school, Snyder endured two seasons of growing pains. He batted .182 in limited 2024 action. In 2025, he raised it to .220. Fortunately, he did show off his legs with 41 stolen bases. This year, the stolen bases have been less prominent with his bat leading the way.
Following a 6-game rehab assignment, Snyder returned to St. Lucie where he has spent time since going pro. This year has been far different. He’s slashing .310/.361/.441. The stolen bases are 17 which feels low but it’s across only 35 games.
The Mets haven’t committed to a single position for Snyder which isn’t entirely unique. He has played more second base than any other position since going pro. This year, he’s seeing action in center field. Perhaps looking for the kind of breakout year that made A.J. Ewing a notable Mets prospect in 2025, Snyder has very much been the same type of offensive player to a lesser degree. Swinging from the right side, power has been minimal with 7 home runs in 162 games in affiliated ball. A strong finish can land him back on the top 30 Mets prospect list as several players who did make the cut haven’t had as encouraging of progress.
