There isn’t a more famous celebrity New York Mets fan out there than Jerry Seinfeld. However, Hollywood contains plenty more fans of the Mets. Included is Jon Hurwitz, the writer of the Harold & Kumar series as well as the co-creator of Cobra Kai, a spin-off series of the Karate Kid films.

Hurwitz talks as much about the Mets as he does filmmaking on social media. He took his stab at some bold predictions for the coming year. Which ones will come true and which won’t?

Which Mets predictions come true?

Brett Baty leads the team in games played at 1B - Wax On

Definitely happening. There’s no question Brett Baty will play more first baseman than anyone else. Right field locked up by Carson Benge to at least to begin the year, it would take several disasters for Baty to not end up as the primary Mets first baseman. This one is less bold as it is practical.

Jorge Polanco becomes a fan favorite once the fanbase sees his skills at the plate on a regular basis. He drives in more than 90 runs. - Wax Off

This one might be a little more of a stretch. Jorge Polanco has driven in 90 runs once and it took him hitting 33 bombs to do it. Hitting behind Bo Bichette in the number four spot with Juan Soto likely to stay second, he’ll have opportunities. Polanco may very well become a fan-favorite, but I don’t see him reaching 90 RBI. He has a track record of getting hurt and there will be reasons to sit him.

Clay Holmes wins 15 games - Wax Off

Clay Holmes won 12 games for the Mets last year. Is it preposterous for him to add 3 more? Not at all. Only 7 pitchers won 15 or more games last year. Freddy Peralta, with 176.2 innings, had the fewest. Holmes will need to luck into winning 15 games for the Mets. Another dozen, or maybe a baker’s dozen, is more realistic. I don’t see it.

Carson Benge hits more than 15 home runs - Wax Off

If there’s one thing about Carson Benge’s abilities that come into question it’s the power. He didn’t hit a single spring training home run. In the minors, power wasn’t his greatest strength. He hit 15 home runs in 519 minor league plate appearances. The power may eventually come around, but this isn’t the year where you should be the over.

Francisco Alvarez makes the All-Star team - Wax Off

All-Star predictions are always tough. Catcher, especially, is it the year when Francsico Alvarez finally earns his opportunity? Here’s what’ll be tough: do the Mets take advantage of having one of the best backup catcher in the game and sit him a little more regularly? Fewer chances could have Alvarez overlooked. What’s more, with several more clear cut candidates to be All-Stars, Alvarez could get overlooked for the sake of giving every team an All-Star. Hurwitz is going bold and this isn’t one I’d be ready to make.

Devin Williams has a better ERA than Edwin Diaz this season - Wax On

This is a fun one and you should sign up for it. Devin Williams as a closer in New York is the only question with him. He has regularly had sub-2.00 ERA seasons while Edwin Diaz has been a little more up and down in his career. Diaz has folded plenty under pressure in the past. ERA isn’t everything nor should it be the deciding factor into who had the better year. There is, however, plenty of evidence to make this a bold prediction worth agreeing with.
