3) The Mets trade for a pitcher, just not anyone we were expecting (or maybe wanted)

The Mets will make a trade at the MLB Winter Meetings. Who will it be? This is where I need your help.

I don’t think they’re getting any of the usual suspects this week. Tarik Skubal, Freddy Peralta, and any of the others commonly mentioned as trade targets will stay put or end up somewhere else. Stearns is going to pull a trick on us and acquire someone off of our radar.

It wouldn’t be the first time. Who thought Semien was coming to the Mets with the way their second base situation was loaded with options and has been for years? Something in the way of replacing the kind of role Brandon Sproat could have might be the easy to go. An optional starting pitcher with a little more big league experience and trustworthiness wouldn’t hurt the Mets to have around. It can give Sproat more time to develop or create a situation where they part with him more easily.

Expect the Stearns haters to come out in full force to mock the move. Think of something on the same scale as last year’s addition of Griffin Canning but with more justification; like the player can be stashed in the minors. Stearns has made multiple questionable moves. What he’s never short on is surprises, whether we like them or not.
