NY Mets predicted to trade for Eugenio Suarez while being upstaged by the Yankees

Keep your fingers crossed a lot of these predictions from SNY's John Harper fail to come true.

SNY’s John Harper made 10 bold predictions for the second half and each seems to break the heart of the average New York Mets fan more than the last. Despite beginning with a Pete Alonso MVP push and a new contract to remain in Queens, Harper’s remaining predictions are more of a headache than anything else.

Among them, we see Jacob deGrom and Zack Wheeler win Cy Youngs. The Mets fall to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the postseason again. The New York Yankees are World Series champions.

Included in Harper’s prediction is the Mets acquiring Eugenio Suarez at the trade deadline. Fantastic. Except for one thing. He sees the Yankees upstaging the Mets by landing Jose Ramirez from the Cleveland Guardians.

Landing Eugenio Suarez is nice for the Mets, but seeing Jose Ramirez win a World Series with the Yankees makes it devastating

It’s not just a matter of the Yankees having something we want. If both teams are indeed in the hunt for a third base upgrade, Ramirez is the kind of game-changing addition we’d need the Mets to make. Already as familiar with Francisco Lindor as anyone in the game, there is too much poetic (in)justice in him coming to Queens to play alongside his ex-teammate once again.

Suarez is one of the likeliest sluggers to get traded. Ramirez, although speculated about whenever the Guardians aren’t in the playoff hunt, still seems like a pipe dream addition for any club. Stealing Suarez from the Yankees could indeed end up as the final straw to force the Yankees into doing something drastic. A reactionary move done in part because their inner-city rivals got him, it would be the cherry on top of what should be yet another exciting trade deadline.

Despite not being an All-Star this year, Ramirez is putting up his usual big numbers. He’s slashing .295/.363/.506 with 18 home runs and 50 RBI. Signed for three more years with his yearly payment going from $21 million next year to $23 million and finally $25 million in the final season, he’s a modestly priced superstar who doesn’t seem to be on the decline.

Ramirez is the kind of trade addition that could put any team over the top. And if Harper’s prediction comes true, it’s going to be tough to feel any sense of satisfaction with whatever Suarez may offer the Mets.
