3) Luisangel Acuna
Luisangel Acuna won Rookie of the Month in April after he ended the month with a respectable .288/.342/.356 triple-slash, .313 wOBA, and 102 wRC+. He only struck out in 19.6% of his 79 plate appearances and had a 7.6% walk rate. While Acuna hit for very little power, his batting line was made better by the fact he went seven-for-eight in stolen base attempts and provided strong defense up the middle. He looked like someone who could help the Mets steal runs by getting on base at a respectable rate and willing himself into scoring position.
But May was a horrible month for Acuna. He only batted .204/.254/.222 with a .220 wOBA, and 38 wRC+. He was still efficient on the basepaths, with a perfect six-for-six in stolen base attempts. But he saw his walk rate plummet to 5%. Acuna isn't a power hitter, so if he isn't reaching base at a decent rate, his speed and baserunning are severely handicapped, and he ranked 253 among the 285 batters in OBP in May with at least 50 trips to the dish.
Acuna's month of May was so poor he is now rarely getting the opportunity to hit in June. He only has 16 plate appearances this month, with three hits and a walk. Acuna has primarily been used as a late-inning defensive replacement and pinch runner. For a player who looked like a prime table setter for the Mets' big hitters, Acuna's star is as dim as it ever has been right now.
