And the award for the NY Mets player with the best reason to break a chair goes to…

A little support would've been nice.

We’ve seen fire and we’ve seen rain from the New York Mets during their ongoing 8-game losing streak. Fire has come from frustration. The rain is from the tears shed by fans who thought this was a legitimate contender only a few months ago. It’s beginning to feel like there won’t be too many real awards to hand out. A fake one is well-deserved for one of the newest members of the Mets roster, Brandon Sproat.

Although two games into his big league career, Sproat deserves a chance to take a sledgehammer to a chair if he so chooses. His 6 shutout innings on Saturday against the Texas Rangers should’ve been enough to make him the hero who stopped the bleeding. Alas, here came the Mets offense, bullpen, and even the manager who yanked him after 70 pitches. Somewhat justified, it doesn’t sit well with the eventual result.

Swivel, Rocking, Chaise, or something else, Brandon Sproat isn't wrong for wanting to smash something

It should be the lead story for the Mets right now. Sproat has been almost as good as Nolan McLean. Strikeouts weren’t plentiful on Saturday, but efficiency was. He had all of the makings of going even further. Only one Rangers player reached third base. A few scattered singles and a lone double was all Sproat was willing to give Texas.

The game was in contrast to his first start when Sproat carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning but with a 1-0 lead due to a walk and some small ball out of the Cincinnati Reds. Aided with 1 run of support while on the mound and another after exiting, Sproat might want to get in touch with Jacob deGrom before Texas leaves to receive some advice for interrogating that chair he won. It might have a family.

A pair of 3-2 losses for Sproat in two games where you don’t have to move the bar down to see how good he can be throws more than another log on the fire of frustration with this team. Toss in a whole forest. Games like Saturday’s must result in wins.

Two starts into his career, two games where he got little help from the lineup, and nothing to show for it other than a pat on the back. Someone grab this guy a brightly colored Adirondack and a chainsaw.
