The 2025 MLB All-Star Game is just around the corner. Voting has already begun, and the New York Mets are looking to send a lot of players to the game. They’re one of the best teams in baseball this year and have some of the best players at their respective positions. Kodai Senga leads the NL in ERA, Pete Alonso is having an MVP-caliber season with the bat, Juan Soto is heating up at the right time, and Edwin Diaz is one of the best closing pitchers in the NL. But the Mets have other players who are making interesting All-Star cases this year.
1 player who is a lock: Francisco Lindor
It’s been long enough: it’s time for Francisco Lindor to get his first NY Mets All-Star nod finally. Since making his debut with the Mets in 2021, Lindor has the most fWAR by a shortstop in the league. He also has three consecutive seasons with at least +5.5 fWAR and was even an MVP finalist last year. Lindor has gotten off to slow starts in previous seasons, but that hasn’t been the case this year.
The switch-hitting shortstop is putting up similar hitting numbers as he did last season, slashing .282/.351/.485 with a .361 wOBA and 135 wRC+ throughout his first 302 plate appearances of the season. He’s always been a power/speed threat, and 2025 has been no different. Lindor already has 14 home runs with a .203 isolated slugging percentage and has gone 13-for-15 in stolen base attempts.
fWAR pins Lindor as the most valuable shortstop in the National League at +2.9. He leads second place Trea Turner, who sits at +2.7. Lindor isn’t just the most valuable but the best hitter among NL shortstops as well. He ranks first in OPS, wOBA, wRC+, and slugging percentage and ranks top three in batting average, on-base percentage, and ISO.
It’s time for Francisco Lindor to join Pete Alonso in the All-Star game. He deserves his first Mid-Season classic as a Met. Not only does he deserve his first Mets’ All-Star appearances this year, but he should be the starter for the National League. When he makes the All-Star game, he’ll be the first Mets shortstop to get the honor since Jose Reyes in 2011.
