It’s official. The New York Mets are having a bad week. Pete Alonso is not coming back to Queens as anything more than a visitor. His meeting with the Baltimore Orioles must’ve gone well as he has agreed to a five-year deal worth $155 million to head down I-95 to join Ryan Helsley and the boys.
BREAKING: First baseman Pete Alonso and the Baltimore Orioles are finalizing a five-year, $155 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Alonso leaves the Mets to make a loaded AL East even better.

Pete Alonso is officially leaving the Mets for the Orioles
A little over 24 hours after Edwin Diaz sprinted for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Alonso is doing the same a little closer to home but at least in the other league. It’s a crushing blow for fans who still haven’t gotten over the loss of Diaz to the Dodgers.
The expectation that the Mets weren’t willing to go beyond 3 years with Diaz and Alonso seemed to have sparked this deal. Alonso got right around what many fans had expected he would. Five years and $155 million is right around where several members of the Rising Apple team predicted he would get. However, we all assumed he’d be back with the Mets or maybe swiped away by the Boston Red Sox.
The trade of Brandon Nimmo, loss of Diaz, and now Alonso has completely overhauled what the Mets roster can look like next season. The weather outside is frightful, but David Stearns can feel the heat.
