2. The offense was unable to come up with the big hit

The Mets could only muster one run on Opening Day for the second straight season. It didn't come until the ninth inning when Francisco Lindor hit a sac fly that drove Starling Marte in. Other than that, the Mets could not come up with the big hit all game, and it's not like they did not have chances to. They left 10 runners on base, six of whom were in scoring position.

This can be seen in the eighth and ninth innings. In both, the Mets had the bases loaded with a chance to tie the game. However, in both innings, the Mets came up short. If the Mets are going to be this offensive juggernaut, they can not let opportunities like that go to waste. It's unrealistic to expect them to drive every runner in, but they should at least drive in half of the runners they put on.

A big reason the Mets had all the success they did in 2024 was their ability to come up with the big hit. It felt like whenever a clutch moment was needed, someone always delivered. This was a big reason why fans have so much confidence in the Mets' offense. While you can not put too much into one game, it's something to watch. If this trend continues, then the Mets will be in a lot of trouble.
