It looks like the NY Mets have no intentions of meeting with perfect lineup addition

The Mets aren't making a big push for Kazuma Okamoto despite the obvious match.

Kazuma Okamoto is coming to the United States to meet with several teams. The New York Mets aren’t among the reported suitors.

There might not be a free agent who fits the Mets better. While Cody Bellinger offers a solution in left field with the ability to give them innings in center field and even first base, Okamoto would be a natural to flip between both corner infield spots. He’s Brett Baty insurance at third base, a first base alternative over Jorge Polanco, and should sign for a contract at least close to their desire of three years.

The Mets must have something else planned if they’re not even meeting with Kazuma Okamoto

The Mets are moving in mysterious ways this offseason. Their run prevention mission has barely gotten off the ground. Beyond Marcus Semien, they’ve done nothing to improve the lineup in this regard. Polanco might be able to give them a lift at first base. He’s no sure thing.

Previous Mets rumors of the team’s desire to add a right-handed bat who can play first base and hit for some power matches Okamoto further. Seeing teams such as the Pittsburgh Pirates (who already signed Ryan O’Hearn) and Boston Red Sox (who stole Willson Contreras via trade from the Mets) is disheartening when the Mets lineup could still use a major facelift.

Just because the Mets are left out as potential suitors at the moment doesn’t mean Okamoto’s representation won’t answer their calls. However, with a team like the Los Angeles Angels in the bidding and apparently aiming to compete next year as well as a club like the San Diego Padres who need a first baseman and are willing to spend but to limits, it’s a stretch to actually expect the Mets to be a surprise match for Okamoto regardless of how much sense it may make.

The only consolation: no other NL East team is named as a suitor nor are the New York Yankees. It’s a small victory, like finishing last on Jeopardy! and they give you the home version to take back to Yonkers.

Not much of a peep has been made about the Mets having interest in Okamoto. While they’ve regularly worked in stealth, far too many teams seem heavily interested in Okamoto for it to not slip out.
