Blink and you might’ve missed the bloodletting that took place on Monday night in Cincinnati. The Reds honored the memory of the Tom Seaver trade by winning 12-0. In one fell swoop, the New York Mets erased the good vibes from the weekend series victory over the Atlanta Braves.
The series began a new week in a new city and with it came some roster moves, player updates, and other pieces of Mets news.
Mets fans aren’t excited about the 2026 MLB All-Star Game
The 2026 MLB All-Star Game will be here before we know it. Who knew? It has been a topic talked amongst Mets fans less than just about anything else. The team has one position player with a real case, Juan Soto. A few relievers are deserving, but is a closer going to get brushed aside for Huascar Brazoban to make it?
The first look at the NL All-Star balloting tells us just how fans feel about this year’s Mets team.

Soto ranking 8th among outfielders and Bo Bichette in the same spot among third basemen (even though he has played far more shortstop now) reveals how little ballot stuffing Mets fans have done. Give credit to the voters. For the most part, they’re getting a lot of things right.
Kodai Senga is coming off of the IL and we’re all holding our breath
Kodai Senga is returning to the Mets rotation and will start on Tuesday in place of Christian Scott. Carlos Mendoza spoke before Monday’s game, seemingly placing some of the onus on Senga’s insistence of feeling good as to one of the reasons why he’ll be the one to get the nod.
Senga is coming off of a successful start in Double-A where he went 6 innings, allowed one hit and a run. Senga telling the Mets he’s good to go is a positive sign only because he has been so hesitant in the past to make starts when things weren’t, seemingly, perfect.
As much as we’d love to think a player like Francisco Alvarez recovering quickly from injury can flow through the organization and have others work harder, that’s not how these things work. Senga was originally expected to make at least one more rehab outing. While we should feel tepid, it’s the right move to make. Why waste another rehab outing from him when your big league squad’s alternatives have just as much doubt?
What’s the best role for Tobias Myers?
Tobias Myers should have been starting long before yesterday. The Mets gave him a few opener opportunities, but seemed to quickly go backwards from stretching him out in spring training to making him into a multi-inning reliever out of the bullpen. The club’s love affair with these types of bullpen arms hasn’t gone unnoticed and we should appreciate the value.
The problem with Myers is he never seemed to really have a particular role. It takes a special kind of pitcher to work as an opener. Clearly, that’s not Myers. Would the results be any different if he was working as an actual starter?
The 7 earned runs in 1.1 innings of work on Monday elevated him to a 5.71 ERA on the year. Equally unsatisfactory as it is unacceptable, the Mets need to rethink what his exact role will be moving forward. Once decided, sticking with it would be beneficial. It’s a shame the Mets rotation issues may have them continually circling back to openers and longmen for longer than we’d like.
