The crawl of the MLB offseason official seems to have hit 7am where everyone living in the Northeast knows traffic is more of an actual crawl than a leisurely commute. Trades continue to happen across the league. Free agent deals are getting done. The New York Mets, however, seem to have hit the pause button for any major moves at the moment.

There’s still plenty for fans to discuss. Fresh in all of our minds is the Juan Soto signing. As fans should do, the debate about whether signing him was the right move or not can easily be compared to Plan-B for the New York Yankees. Financially, we can now pinpoint the performance of Cody Bellinger and Max Fried to equal one Soto.

Those two can help answer the question of what’s better: one Soto or a Bellinger and a Fried? Financially as close to a draw as it can get, the risk the Mets have with their superstar outfielder comes down to putting all of the eggs in one basket versus spreading out the improvements. We can tip our caps at what the Yankees have done thus far in response to losing Soto, possibly before getting furious over what they might do next.

Mets free agent Pete Alonso remains a possibility for the Yankees even after the Cody Bellinger trade

Bellinger is expected to be the center fielder for the Yankees. A position without many notable players available in free agency and equally as undesirable options on the trade market with Bellinger maybe being one of the few exceptions, early Tuesday rumors can’t be written off yet.

Several holes on their MLB roster still to fill, the possibility of Pete Alonso jumping boroughs continues on for now. It does seem like the Yankees will end up with him, Anthony Santander, or Christian Walker. If we were to grade their offseason thus far, even with the loss of Soto, they’d deserve a pretty good grade.

The Mets, on the other hand, have added some players with some doubts. One of them was introduced yesterday looking a lot different.

Clay Holmes looks ready to make everyone forget he was ever a Yankee

In wrestling, there’s cheap heat. Bash the city’s sports teams where Monday Night Raw is taking place or wear a rival’s jersey and you’re going to get boos. Clay Holmes did the complete opposite in his introduction on Tuesday. Rocking a beard and a Queens shirt, he looked anything but Yankee-like.

How big of a deal is it for players to have beards or not? Apparently newly acquired reliever Devin Williams isn’t so eager to get rid of his.

We fully understand, Devin. Have a good year in the Bronx, but not too good. We’ll welcome you and all of the scruff in Queens next year. We swear no one will try to randomly convert you into a starting pitcher either.
