Mets News: Francisco Lindor shade, J.D. Martinez, a Mark Vientos fan

New York Mets fans were able to enjoy their Tuesday. Even those who had their throats stomped on the night before with a New York Jets loss were pleased to see the team acquire Davante Adams in a trade with the Oakland Raiders.

The day off for the Mets didn’t mean they were completely out of the news cycle. Gold Glove finalists were announced and Francisco Lindor was notably absent from it. Gold Gloves are tough to hand out because no statistic perfectly represents a player’s ability to field the position. Lindor’s 16 Outs Above Average ranked in a tie for fifth-place, right below Dansby Swanson and above Ezequiel Tovar. Somehow, St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn with an OAA of 3 snuck in there, too. For some context, Brett Baty had an OAA of 2.

We all feel like the Mets shortstop we yet again overlooked for an award or honor. It doesn’t help much but the typically clever Mets social media team compiled a highlight reel of some of his best plays of the season as a reaction to his absence from being a finalist.

J.D. Martinez could make his Mets NLCS debut in Game 3

There hasn’t been an at-bat for J.D. Martinez against his former ball club. However, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza looks poised to push him into the DH role for Game 3.

One lefty pitcher on the Los Angeles Dodgers roster has had Martinez watching from the dugout as Jesse Winker got the first two starts. Unneeded thus far, the move might be a way to prevent him from going completely cold.

There’s also a chance we see Jeff McNeil in the starting lineup over Jose Iglesias at second base. This means Jesse Winker moves to the bench to give them a lefty bat. Additionally, we need to wonder just how good Brandon Nimmo’s foot will feel. Plantar fasciitis is no joke. You’ll find out when you turn 35.

Tommy Pham is a Mark Vientos fan too

Tommy Pham had an adventurous season going from the Chicago White Sox to the St. Louis Cardinals and finally the Kansas City Royals. All in a close geographical proximity, he added to his immaculate grid availability and eventually found himself in the postseason with the Royals.

Pham didn’t have as much luck as he did with the Arizona Diamondbacks last year. So, what is he up to? He’s in full support of Mark Vientos.

Pham’s support does help eliminate another contender from his comments calling out the Mets position players as the “least hardest working group” he has ever played with. When even one of the harshest critics is supporting the Mets when he left with such a bitter taste, you know there’s something special about what’s going on in Queens.
