If you want a new favorite NY Mets player not named Juan Soto, Jose Siri gave you a reason

Jose Siri smartly ran his way into the most popular baseball play of December.

You’ve probably already ordered your Juan Soto jersey or at least have one in your online shopping cart. Whatever your plans are, it needs to somehow involve Soto memorabilia this holiday season. He’s the biggest free agent signing the New York Mets may ever make. Undoubtedly front page worthy and a new favorite of many, you can always go against the grain and choose someone else.

Looking for a different new favorite Mets player? Look no further than Jose Siri who in the LIDOM put together one of the wilder plays you’ll see.

Save some of that wild energy for the Mets season, Jose Siri

What should have been a normal steal of third base turned into this wackiness of swiping two bags on one pitch. Siri may have appeared to make it all the way to Haiti with how far out of the base line he ran, but as many were quick to point out, he stayed within the rules.

Mets fans haven’t been able to experience much of Siri. Having only played for the Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays, opportunities to see him have been limited. Mostly known for his defense, the man can run, too. He matched his career high with 14 stolen bases last year. Extremely skilled in some areas and equally as deficient in others, this play did give us a look into Siri’s knowledge of the game.

How quick are we all to criticize a player who doesn’t know the rules or shows a lack of hustle? Siri clearly had an understanding of what he was doing as there was no hesitation when it came to giving up on the play altogether. It wouldn’t be a shock to the system to learn this has happened to him before at some level.

We had an idea of what we were getting with Siri. He is a high-energy player capable of getting under the skin of opponents. A new Jesse Winker with a different skillset perhaps? Whatever it is he brings, let’s hope it includes more exciting plays like this one.
