Those who think baseball is boring haven’t seen Jose Siri play. The New York Mets outfielder didn’t get to participate in either of the first two games of the season. A start on Saturday gave us the perfect example of what he can do so well.

After a strikeout in his first at-bat, Siri drew a walk in his second. A stolen base and advancing to third base on a sacrifice fly put him in prime position to do something a little nutty. On a semi-routine groundball back to the mound, Siri went buckwild when Houston Astros pitcher Spencer Arrighetti proved he hadn’t read the scouting report on Siri.

Hyperbolically, you have a new favorite Mets player.

Jose Siri is your new favorite Mets player after this heads-up run

It was the kind of play you’d think would have only happened in the 2015 World Series against the Mets or in the fifth inning of last year’s Game 5 of the World Series. Arrighetti’s casualness in throwing to first was as if Siri was playing with a limp. Hardly. One of the fastest players in the league despite not having extraordinarily high stolen base numbers, we saw exactly what Siri’s legs can do.

Something lacking early on with last year’s Mets was a fiery attitude. Francisco Lindor has some to an extent, but he does seem like someone who’d take off his tie before a fight. Guys like Jesse Winker would throw dirt in your eye and rub their hands in their hair after. Siri is cut from the same cloth.

His first Mets run under his belt, Siri was pumped. It’s a different kind of energy than old friend Jose Iglesias or maybe a more comparable player, Harrison Bader. There are going to be moments where Siri tries to take the extra bag only to cost the team an out. We can revel in moments like this where he’s successful.

Center field appears to be a fluid situation with Siri and Tyrone Taylor sharing duties based on a variety of thoughts. One play and already Siri has proven he is still the most exciting of the pair. But will moments like these be plentiful enough to keep him in the starting lineup and not in the background?
