The New York Mets have built a rich history over their 63 years of playing baseball. They've won two World Series and five NL Pennants, as well as made the playoffs 11 times. They also have many moments that live in baseball infamy, like Buckner's error and Ventura's Grand Slam Single. With such a rich history there have been many great players to dawn the orange and blue. But if we were to make a Mets Mount Rushmore, who would be on it?

What the Mets Mount Rushmore looks like and what it'll look like in 2035

Currently, there are three locks on the Mets Mount Rushmore. Those are Tom Seaver, David Wright, and Mike Piazza. There isn't much debate with those three, as any Mets fan can tell you about their accomplishments. Seaver turned the Mets from loveable losers to winners and is nicknamed the franchise. Wright owns the majority of Mets offense records and personified what it meant to be a captain. Piazza was the star of the late 90s-early 2000s and helped heal New York with his home run in the first sporting event in New York after September 11th.

However, where there is debate is who the fourth spot belongs to. Several players can make a compelling argument on why they deserve it. But the player who has the best claim to the fourth spot is Keith Hernandez. His acquisition was a sign the Mets were ready to compete again after struggling in the late 70s-early 80s. His contribution to the team was a big reason the team won the World Series in 1986. But what sets him apart from everyone else is his 17 seasons being a part of the beloved SNY broadcast booth.

Now that the current Mets Mount Rushmore has been established, we can look at who might be joining that list in the next decade. There are currently only two players who have a legitimate shot of earning a spot among these greats.

The first is Fransisco Lindor. He's the unofficial captain of the Mets and is coming off a season in which he finished runner-up for the MVP. For many Mets fans, it was the best season they've ever seen a Mets position player have. He also had a pair of iconic moments with the home run against Atlanta in game 161 and the grand slam against the Phillies in Game Four of the NLDS. If he can put up similar numbers to his 2024 season for the rest of his time in Queens, he's a lock.

The second is Juan Soto. After signing the largest contract in North American sports history, there's a lot of hope for what Soto can be. With him being a top-three player in baseball and entering his age-26 season, the expectation is the best is yet to come. If Soto can live up to expectations and prove to be the missing piece that brings a championship back to Queens, he'll easily be on the Mount Rushmore.

These two will replace Piazza and Hernandez. While both have done a lot for the organization, Seaver and Wright mean so much to the organization that they'll be on the Mets Mount Rushmore for as long as the Mets play baseball.
