3) Jarren Duran
Boston Red Sox rumors of a Jarren Duran trade can finally come true this offseason with such a large surplus of outfielders. He was only a match for the Mets as a center fielder, but now with left field open, it’s a more reasonable acquisition to make.
A speedy doubles and triples machine whose defense is debatable based on the numbers, the uniqueness of playing at Fenway Park for half a season could always translate better at a more shapely ballpark like Citi Field. The Mets wouldn’t necessarily just acquire him for his defense. Capable of playing center field but a better match in the corners, he might even be a solution to start the year in center field with someone else added to a corner spot.
Think of it this way: trade for Duran to begin the year in center field with something else planned for left field or right field brought in from the outside. It goes with some of the same thinking as acquiring Bellinger, at least before the Nimmo trade opened up left field more.
Gold Glove winners Ceddane Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu could always be moved this offseason, but as the younger and more gifted defenders of the three, we should figure Duran is the one Boston would most like to move at a reasonable cost.
Duran has been a popular trade candidate to no avail for Boston. Do the Mets step up to the table with an offer they can’t refuse?
