Shocked! Stunned! Maybe even a little heartbroken. The New York Mets traded Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers for Marcus Semien and emotions are running wilder than a 2-year-old who can’t decide if he wants to play with his ball or wagon.

Big feelings are okay, so is turning this blockbuster trade into something more. The Mets have freed themselves up of some roster space with left field now vacant for the time being. They’re definitely adding someone to play a corner outfield spot. This trade has now made it possible for any of the available corner outfielders on the market to join the Mets for their 2026 march, including these three.

1) Kyle Tucker

Kyle Tucker was never sensible for the New York Mets before this trade, largely because they had greater needs. Yeah, they could have tried to make it work with him, Juan Soto, and Nimmo. It just felt a little too much to have three left-handed hitting corner outfielders on the roster even if they all had different abilities.

Tucker is no lock to come to the Mets, but it seems more reasonable to happen. Soto moves to left field where he could be a better defender for 81 games a year at Citi Field. Tucker becomes the team’s starting right fielder where he should be able to do more than Soto did in year one for the Mets.

Adding an approximate $400 million contract to the books may be a little ambitious of the Mets. However, after the way they embarrassingly missed the playoffs in 2025, we shouldn’t put it past them. Steve Cohen has already missed out on winning a championship within 5 years of taking over majority ownership. The club is only 2 for 5 in making it to the playoffs. This is the move you make to show you're not messing around.
