4) Brett Baty
In my opinion, I’m not ready to trade Brett Baty. No, momentum has shifted his way. He’s the infield youngster they need to stick with after the way he played in 2025. It’s a fluid situation with the infield. After 2024, Vientos felt untouchable. Now it’s Baty short of anything that would fetch the Mets a superstar. I’ll keep this in mind for him so as to not repeat some of the same teams over and over again. The Mets can only really trade Baty to a team with something significant to offer back.
Mariners - There are hypothetical trades for the Mets and Seattle Mariners to make. Their roster is loaded with pitching. They could use another infielder or two. Baty could be an answer for them at second base or third base. With some interesting pieces they could offer, Baty feels like a piece and maybe even headliner in a possible trade for pitching.
Pirates - After trading Ke’Bryan Hayes, the Pirates opened themselves up for an outside third base addition. Jared Triolo is their current third baseman on the depth chart. This doesn’t cut it if they actually want to start getting taken seriously. Although mentioned as suitors for McNeil, Baty would fit, too.
Tigers - Tarik Skubal is one of the few players where you trade Baty without a second thought. If Baty is the player who convinces the Detroit Tigers to part with their ace, you do it without thinking twice. The Tigers might have a few other trade possibilities to make. Those would take a bit more thought.
