3) Mark Vientos
Is it time to trade Mark Vientos? He goes against what David Stearns preaches as far as run prevention goes. The team showed faith in him at times last year and not so much in other stretches. However they feel about him, they need to listen. Any of these three teams should really consider him.
Padres - The kind of deal that could work between the Mets and San Diego Padres in this regard would probably have to include some money changing hands. The Padres are trying to cut payroll. Vientos and his league minimum salary as a regular candidate to DH and maybe play regular first base would work for them favorably. Plus, if they can acquire him while reducing some payroll, both teams can benefit.
Pirates - A theme every offseason is how the Pittsburgh Pirates need bats. With arms to spare, this would be a good team to talk about a deal with. They don’t have any superb solutions at first base or the DH spot. Vientos would have the potential to give their offense the boost it badly needs.
White Sox - Over the summer, Vientos was a speculated chip the Mets were going to send to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for Luis Robert Jr. Honestly, it makes a whole lot of sense. Their first base situation was a mess. After trading away Andrew Vaughn who became an absolute stud for the Milwaukee Brewers, they should aim to have a guy like Vientos to take on the job or even become their DH. Stunningly, the 44 games Andrew Benintendi played at DH was the most of any player for the White Sox in 2025.
