2) Jeff McNeil

Unlike Kodai Senga who has many fans in Queens, Jeff McNeil seems to have outworn his welcome. His temper isn’t the reason why fans are volunteering to drive him to another city. It’s his declining bat. He’s now a slap hitter who won’t battle for .300 on a regular basis. Even so, he has been a hot player on the rumor mill. Several teams have been speculated matches. I’m going to pass over the Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners and find some fresher, more unique clubs where there’s a case.

Angels - The Angels are such a mess we could probably include them as a match for nearly every trade candidate on every team. McNeil fits them. Christian Moore is currently slated to be their best second base option next year. A bit green to feel assured he’ll improve from the .198 he hit last year, it couldn’t hurt them to have McNeil at second base and maybe roving around the outfield too.

Athletics - The Athletics actually have a pretty good crew of position players with second base being a weakness of theirs. McNeil can add veteran experience to a mostly young lineup. The biggest trouble here is the Athletics probably wouldn’t want to pay his entire salary. Another team might.

Reds - They made the playoffs in 2025 (thanks to the Mets) and could use a few upgrades just about everywhere. Second base was a weak position of theirs and so was the outfield. McNeil can help them in both spots. While they’re a dark horse to sign a slugger like Pete Alonso or hometown hero Kyle Schwarber, we shouldn’t dismiss the idea of them trading for some help, too.
