5) Nick Burdi

On the same day the Mets signed Stock, they brought in another pitcher who threw for the Red Sox last year. Nick Burdi, however, doesn't have the same track record of staying healthy. He might be one of the most injured pitchers in all of baseball to regularly take the ball at least once a season.

Last year was the healthiest of Burdi's career in a long time. His 35 innings in Triple-A were the largest amount since 2015. It's an incredible statistic to show how irregular he has been on the field. By accident he should have topped the 21 from 2023 which was the previous high from the last decade.

As a reliever who turns 33 next year, we know exactly where Burdi fits in. He doesn't have minor league options available any longer due to service time, but like Chris Devenski last year, can approve a minor league reassignment. He should be one of several pitchers the Mets can deploy in their carousel of relievers throughout the 2026 season.

A hard-thrower whose fastball lost a few miles per hour last year with the Red Sox in his small sample, he appears to be a moldable part of the organization who may benefit from relying on other pitches. He debuted a changeup last year (only twice) and threw a sinker more than any other pitch. Per Prospect Savant, he threw his sinker and slider about equally in the minors with the fastball coming up only 27% of the time. The difference in availability should have him taking a similar approach in 2026.
