4) Robert Stock
This guy had "David Stearns signing" written all over him after putting together an excellent year in the Mexican League's 2024-2025 season. Signed to a minor league deal earlier this week, Stock is coming off of a 3.92 ERA season in the minors with a 10.2 K/9 rate, the Mets are taking a chance on this 36-year-old whose foreign results have been superb.
"Interesting" is definitely the best word to describe Stock because of the way his career has gone. Before tossing 2.2 innings for the Boston Red Sox this past year, he hadn't been in the majors since 2021 with the Mets.
There's as much of a chance we see Stock flame out quickly and never reach the big leagues as much as there is for him to throw a small number of innings for the Mets. He has been starting more regularly since leaving the Mets, reinventing himself late in his career into a starter after a decade of pitching almost entirely in relief.
Based on the way the Mets handled their bullpen last year, we're bound to see Stock at some point. He has been able to stay healthy which is a huge plus. And the ability to eat innings may at the very least make him an option to work as a long reliever for periods of time
If you don't find Stock interesting, that's okay. He seems to. That's what matters.
