1 word from the NY Mets manager says a lot about when they’ll call up Ronny Mauricio

Prior to Saturday’s game, Ronny Mauricio was a topic of discussion with New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza. The hot-hitting prospect doing everything he can with his bat to earn a big league promotion remains a key component this year as the next available bat to add to the lineup for a spark.

Also key was one word used by Mendoza when discussing Mauricio. Can you take a guess?

May the force be with you, young Obi-Wan Mauricio. The Mets have taken this stance plenty when it comes to young players. If there ain’t room to play regularly, you’re going to have to keep hitting in the minors until the club is forced to make a move.

Ronny Mauricio will need to use a Jedi mind trick to get back onto the NY Mets roster

Brett Baty is hitting his way into a permanent roster spot with the Mets. Luisangel Acuna has been underwhelming at times but far from useless thanks to his speed and defense. Mark Vientos being out of options eliminates him from the equation. How can Mauricio force the issue any further than he already has?

Following a 1 for 4 performance on Saturday, Mauricio’s OPS in Triple-A is down to a measly 1.421. The 15 for 29 tear he has been on has done nothing but suggest he’s ready to return to the majors to do some damage. The Mets currently do have one roster spot where he could be useful.

Left-handed DH Jared Young is merely a placeholder on the Mets roster. His 3 for 14 start since replacing Jose Azocar on the roster isn’t nearly enough in the short sample to have him locked in. If there’s any easy roster move to make, it would be to replace him with Mauricio.

Things get more complicated further in the future when players such as Jose Siri and Jesse Winker return from the IL. Completely different players and at different positions, the complicated Mets roster decisions begin to arrive once those veterans without minor league options use their own Jedi powers to make their way onto the roster.

There’s a good chance fatigue sets in before Mauricio is back in the majors again. A similar call back in late summer of 2023, it’s an annual tradition for Mets fans to loudly demand the promotion of a young player tearing it up in the minor leagues. Mendoza’s use of the word “force” was no ode to Star Wars. Apparently, Mauricio will need to be so absolutely ablaze to the point where leaving him in Syracuse is laughable.
