The New York Mets lost Pete Alonso because they didn’t want to pay him for 5 years. They lost Edwin Diaz because…well…a lot of reasons. Kyle Tucker? He used us to get to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
No loss will be more felt on a nightly basis in 2026 than John DeMarsico. The now former Director of SNY Mets broadcasts announced on X that he is stepping down from his position and the reason for it doesn’t sit well.
After 17 years, a change in creative differences is what will have DeMarsico enter free agency. Creative differences? His skills are the ones you try to imitate.
If you want to do something different from what John DeMarsico is doing, your approach is all wrong
Fans want to blame the Wilpons, the ex-owners of the Mets who still control SNY. It’s a strange situation with them no longer owning the team but having ownership over the network where the majority of the games are broadcast. Like, they can’t really be criticized, can they?
Earlier this month, we took a look at some of the best shots broadcasted on SNY in 2025. Limiting it to 10 was difficult. Many more memorable ones in a season we’d actually like to forget, it’s a way of showing just how unique every episode of Mets baseball can be.
DeMarsico should get snatched up somewhere quickly, whether it’s in baseball, another sport, or out in Hollywood. His appreciation for filmmaking and homages to classic scenes always helped make a dull game in July a little more memorable.
If DeMarsico lands anywhere in baseball, let it be with a national network. Let the imagery at least overtake what is often a dull broadcast. Plus, with a deal there, we’d get more of an opportunity to see what we’re missing out on.
It’s not hyperbole. The Mets might have just lost the closest thing to a unanimously popular person who’s at every game. As beloved as all three members of GKR may be, you can nitpick some of their tendencies. Not DeMarsico.
Someone will have big shoes to fill.
