Frustrated New York Mets fans want to hear from Steve Cohen; just not this. We want the OPS numbers to be critiqued. A suggestion of a head rolling. A declaration that the team needs to be better to justify the money flowing out from his wallet. Instead, Cohen gave us this:
Nobody likes to lose but I saw some “ green shoots tonight “. On offense, Lindor had two hits including a home run. Bichette got a double hitting it to left field as opposed to recently being right field prone. Benge got a solid hit. Soto started his running progression today.…

On a 4-hit night, Cohen was sure to mention every single one the Mets had along with the “almosts” along the way, too. The overtly positive perception even has Tommy Lugauer cringing about the lack of realism. Cohen didn’t need to put every Mets player on a metal spit then roast them. What he did was try to hide from the monsters by going under the blanket.
Mets fans who stayed up to watch the games weren’t happy with how Steve Cohen interpreted the 8 and a half innings
The winning response to Cohen cleverly used Cohen's own words against him in a funny way.
just like the Mets, this isn’t hitting the way you want it to

Others pointed out how it has been 40 years. Patience is thin.
We’ve been “hanging in there” since ‘86. All this talk we’ve heard for 40 years.

Another lived in the present and attempted to remind Cohen how bad this offense has truly been.
Yikes, we are celebrating “almost hits”. This team has scored 1 run in 29 innings…some of these guys look washed.

The sky isn’t falling on the Mets, but the ground is shaking. Birds and snakes and aeroplanes. Lenny Bruce is not afraid.
The Mets are 4 games out in the NL East which is hardly insurmountable. They’re not getting clobbered in these games. Mostly, it’s good pitching with a handful of mistakes and lousy offense holding them back.
The tweet was Cohen’s first since calling out the fans who didn’t show up with their free tickets to a game last week. Lost on no one is how the Mets have yet to win a game since. It almost seems as if a Cohen social media post tends to jinx the Mets. Last year’s declaration of the Fab Four was their swan song in a lot of ways.
Cohen taking the ultra-positive approach with the Mets won’t count in the box score. The players will do whatever is they will regardless of how the owner feels. Unhappy fans might want to put him on mute because if he’s not upset with the way the team is performing at the moment, he may never be.
