The New York Mets season is over. Wipe those tears away. It was fun while it lasted.

The healing process has begun. Once mended, fans can turn their hearts toward what’s next. The first order of business, after patching up the hole in the wall you punched, involves looking at who might have played their last game for the ball club.

A rebuilt Mets roster in 2024 successfully made it to the playoffs but it’s these players who remain unsigned through next year. Grouped in several different categories, it’s these players who have a chance to become a free agent.

Every Mets free agent for the 2024-2025 offseason

Pete Alonso
Jose Quintana
Luis Severino
J.D. Martinez
Harrison Bader
Brooks Raley
Adam Ottavino
Ryne Stanek
Drew Smith
Jesse Winker
Jose Iglesias

Those players are all free agents with a possible qualifying offer coming their way where applicable. The Mets do have two other notable players with potential to become free agents.

Mets players with options for 2025

Sean Manaea
Phil Maton

Manaea has a player option and there is little doubt he’ll opt out of it. Maton has a team option. It’s a little more up for debate if the Mets will view if he is worth $7.8 million for next season after a mostly lackluster postseason.

Worth noting, there are other categories of players who might not return. One would be the non-tendered candidates like Paul Blackburn, Alex Young, etc. Then there are players not even on the 40-man roster headed out the door. This includes Eddy Alvarez, Shintaro Fujinami, and several others.

Mets fans will focus mostly on the group of Alonso, Manaea, Severino, and others who contributed regularly this year. Based on how David Stearns handled the Mets roster he inherited last winter, we should be prepared for a lot of turnover, few reunions, and new jerseys in the apparel shop.
