Tommy Pham is hoping to become MLB’s next 200/200 player. At first glance, you may be wondering exactly what it means. It’s not 200 hot dogs in 200 days eaten. The ex-New York Mets outfielder is hoping to hit 200 home runs and steal 200 bases.

51 home runs shy and in need of 69 more stolen bases, Pham is coming off of a productive year with the Pittsburgh Pirates but not anything to suggest he’ll get to his goal quickly. He hit 10 home runs and stole 5 bases. Although dealing with some foot injuries explains some of it, he’s a few years away from reaching the goal. He’ll probably reunite with some of his ex-teams before getting there. He has already suited up for one-third of the league.

Pham isn’t ready to hang up his cleats after a year that had him finishing as a Gold Glove finalist in left field. He might not be on the verge of retirement, but these three Mets should be.

Three former Mets players who should probably just go and enjoy retirement already

1) Carlos Carrasco

One of the first signings of the offseason, Carlos Carrasco is back with the Atlanta Braves on a minor league contract. Since 2021, and this includes a really good season with the Mets in 2022, he is 24-32 with a 5.50 ERA. He had a 7.09 ERA last year combined with the New York Yankees and later the Braves. Carrasco is battling against father time and should probably just enjoy retirement. He’ll be 39 next year.

2) Mark Canha

A few years younger with his 37th birthday coming early next year, Mark Canha is another former Mets player who should start thinking about what’s next in his life. Highly entertaining and certainly someone the Food Network should have a conversation with, he hit .212 in 46 games for the Kansas City Royals last year. Just one home run and 6 RBI in 125 plate appearances proves Canha should be one of the next MLB veterans to go on social media and officially declare himself retired.

3) Omar Narvaez

Unlike Carrasco who was welcomed warmly to New York and Canha who was popular albeit briefly, there wasn’t much fanfare for Omar Narvaez. He got hurt early in 2023 and didn’t even make it through the 2024 season. Since leaving the Mets in early 2024, he has only logged 4 MLB games. There’s always room for a catcher on a team’s depth. Unfortunately, no one has shown faith in Narvaez. He couldn’t even crack the Chicago White Sox roster last year for any amount of regular playing time.
