6) David Robertson
David Robertson is going to get a major league deal. In fact, of everyone on this list, he’s the one fans should be most excited to see join their team. He’s a match for the Mets but so are any of the high-leverage relievers out there.
Robertson pitched to a 3.00 ERA in 72 innings for the Texas Rangers last year. On the verge of turning 40, he helped erase the poor performance he had to finish off the year in 2023 after the Mets traded him to the Miami Marlins.
Fans came to appreciate Robertson in 2023 when he valiantly stepped into the closer’s role during the absence of Edwin Diaz. It’s almost easy to forget just how good he was. In 44 innings, Robertson was 4-2 with a 2.05 ERA. He logged 14 saves along the way. He was the first one the Mets shipped out to officially signal they’d be trade deadline sellers. The other dominoes fell shortly after.
We got the best and the worst of the other former Mets players on this list in their brief time with the franchise. With Robertson, we only got the best. It came with him in an elevated role, too. You might never step into Citi Field and see a Robertson jersey on a home team’s fan. As unanimous as it can get, we still like him.
