6 once beloved former NY Mets players still without a job as spring training nears

Spring training is getting dangerously close and these former Mets fan favorites (even briefly) remain unsigned.

3) Tommy Pham

If you’re still playing immaculate grid, you know all about Tommy Pham. He has played for 9 different MLB teams. Unloved when he first joined the Mets in 2023, he hit his way into a more regular role, even usurping playing time away from Canha. His .268/.348/.472 slash line and 10 home runs in 264 trips to the plate don’t do justice for how important he became in a last ditch effort to keep the Mets alive.

The CPR he provided the Mets in 2023 wasn’t nearly enough. He, along with many others, were dealt away as the ball club put everyone up for sale.

Pham didn’t sign until mid-April and when he did it was a deal with the Chicago White Sox. Eek! He hit well there, slashing .266/.330/.380 in 297 plate appearances. It was a similar start in comparison to what he did with the Mets, only less so. Sadly, Pham cratered with the St. Louis Cardinals, batting .206/.286/.368 in 77 plate appearances and didn’t improve any when he hit .228/.250/.337 in 104 trips to the plate with the Kansas City Royals. His overall numbers on the year came out to a .248/.305/.368 slash line with 9 home runs in 478 plate appearances.

The solid sales pitch Pham now has is the 5 for 11 he went in the postseason against the New York Yankees. However, all of those hits were singles. A minor league deal might be all Pham gets this offseason.
