Former Mets player who struggled in 2024 intends to play two more seasons
Cookie refuses to crumble just yet.
A 38th birthday headed his way in March, Carlos Carrasco isn’t done playing baseball yet. The former New York Mets pitcher who came to Queens paired alongside Francisco Lindor has already begun his offseason regiment. No word on if it involves any Pickleball like J.D. Martinez.
Carrasco isn’t just looking to return in 2025. His mission is to pitch two more seasons. This would take him nearly to age 40 which would be a huge accomplishment for a man whose life took a dramatic turn only a few years ago.
A cancer survivor who only temporarily stepped away from the game to undergo that battle, it’s impossible to ever not like Cookie. He was a well-received member of the Mets at the initial onset of the trade. The only reason why he isn’t remembered more fondly is because two of his three seasons in New York closely matched what he did in 2024 upon his return to Cleveland.
Former Mets pitcher Carlos Carrasco isn’t ready to hang up his cleats yet
After his contract expired with the Mets, Carrasco went back to the only other big league team he had known. He signed a minor league deal with the Guardians with an invite to spring training. Go figure, this battler made the roster out of camp. He even stuck around a long time until an injury in August landed him on the IL for the remainder of the year.
The Guardians managed to win the AL Central with the second-best record in the American League. Carrasco was, unfortunately, not a big part of the success. Yet again, he had a very homely year on the mound.
In 21 starts, Carrasco was 3-10 with a 5.64 ERA. It’s actually lower than his 2021 and 2023 numbers with the Mets. Those were at 6.04 and an even more dreadful 6.80 in his last year with the ball club.
A minor league deal is the best Carrasco could possibly hope for next year. His last four years, which includes a very good 2022 campaign with the Mets, includes 82 starts and a 5.32 ERA to go along with his 22-30 record. All but 7 of those wins came in 2022.
