You’ll never believe which former NY Mets player led the KBO in batting again in 2025

Two straight seasons, two batting titles.

The KBO was a source of depth for the New York Mets in 2025. Jared Young and Brandon Waddell came from the same Doosan Bears team and gave the Mets some alternatives off the bench and in the bullpen. We should fully expect David Stearns to consider making similar moves for the 2026 season. It’s a way to buy into a possibly forgotten player with minimal risk.

Over in South Korea this past season, several familiar names put together good years. Jake Cave was one of the better hitters for Doosan. Lewin Diaz, a former farmhand of the Miami Marlins and a few others, clobbered 50 home runs.

The league’s leading hitter was someone loyal Mets fans may recognize. Hitting .339 for the SSG Landers was veteran outfielder Guillermo Heredia.

If you remember Heredia’s time with the Mets, remind me to never pick a fight with you. You’ll remember everything. He appeared in 7 games for the 2020 team after getting picked up off of waivers from the PIttsburgh Pirates. He was a regular in center field for the Mets during their last week of the 60-game shortened season. 2 of his 4 hits were home runs. His .235 batting average (among other things) had the Mets DFA’ing him in the offseason when they signed Kevin Pillar as an upgrade.

Heredia wasn’t done entering our consciousness. The Atlanta Braves claimed him off waivers from the Mets and he played a lot in 2021. His 120 games and 347 plate appearances made him hard to miss whenever the Mets and Braves went up against each other. The numbers weren’t great nor were they in 2022 when he hit only .158.

His third season in the KBO complete, Heredia has been a beast over there. His .360 batting average from 2024 also happened to lead the league. That was a far more monstrous year as it included 21 home runs and 118 RBI. This past year, in far less playing time, he hit 13 home runs and drove in 54.

The KBO is known as a hitter’s league. Heredia read the message. Only a .231 hitter in MLB, he has combined to hit .342 in three KBO seasons.
