NY Mets fans won’t like what Mike Francesa has to say about Cedric Mullins

The sports pope has some strong feelings about Cedric Mullins.

Starting in center field for the New York Mets for as much as possible the next two months, Cedric Mullins! Ladies and gentlemen. A legitimate center fielder who can hit better than he has shown this season. We should be satisfied.

One thought we all surely had after the deal was what New York sports radio legend Mike Francesa thought about Mullins. It sounds like he’s talking about Mullins pre-trade, but he makes his feelings quite clear. Mets fans aren’t going to like it.

It’s a case of “if you know, you know.” Francesa is no doubt on the Mount Rushmore of sports radio talk. Find someone in the world more synonymous with the industry. Unfortunately, one of the merit badges he wears declares him a giant mush as well.

Mike Francesa liking Cedric Mullins feels like doomsday for the Mets

There are endless examples of Francesa getting things wrong. Googling the words “Mike Francesa mush” yields over 50,000 pages.

The New York Post has covered his betting woes with golf, notably hitting a trifecta of failure. Reddit threads discuss how he accurately predicts the opposite results. Over on Threads (is that still around?), commentary on his keen ability to miss on winners showed up. It’s beginning to feel like the only thing that could survive a nuclear winter are cockroaches and bad college football picks from Francesa.

Francesa has been wrong plenty, almost with the odds stacked against the possibility. Each of his Final Four picks being wrong made its way to Freezing Cold Takes.

Surely, there have been things Francesa was right about over the years. You’ll just have a tough time finding them because even when he gets things wrong, there is a certain insistence that he isn’t to blame. Pre-internet, those bad picks were easy to hide from. Now, everything lives forever.

The fact of the matter is, the Mets did what they had to do. Nobody can scare us off of how we feel about Mullins; good, bad, or indifferent. It just doesn’t feel so positive to have Francesa sounding this adamant about what he believes Mullins can offer the Mets.
