Root for anything nice to happen for the New York Yankees? Are you out of your mind? It takes a special kind of circumstance for any Mets fan to wish for something good to happen to our Big Apple rival. The exception is usually when it benefits us.

One of the latest Yankees rumors to join us in the New Year is their reported interest in free agent Bo Bichette. Why would we possibly want them to land a stud like him? It all goes back to what they won’t be able to do as a result.

In the game of MLB musical chairs, Bo Bichette going to the Yankees is best for the Mets

Bichette leaving the Toronto Blue Jays probably ups the chances of them landing Kyle Tucker. A dream target for Mets fans, he’s not realistic enough for us to expect him to actually call Queens home next year. Cody Bellinger, on the other hand, just might.

Along with the Yankees rumors linking them to Bichette, they continue to pursue a reunion with Bellinger. The Mets are aiming to make him the next addition to their outfield.

Bichette to the Yankees, Tucker to the Blue Jays, and Bellinger to the Mets. What could go wrong? The game of musical chairs makes everyone happy.

The sneaky pest here, as per usual, would be the Los Angeles Dodgers. They will undoubtedly be in the market to add one of the big bats. They’ve been frighteningly quiet outside of signing Edwin Diaz.

The Dodgers are a hypothetical match for all three of these free agents with maybe Bellinger being least likely. After all, it’s the team that gave up on him. Tucker could become their newest corner outfielder with Bichette playing either position up the middle while pushing Mookie Betts to the outfield if it’s shortstop they place him at.

Significant free agent hitters are running out. Fits for the Mets roster exist and we shouldn’t even rule out the chances of a trade for a bat.

The Yankees are bound to add at least one of the remaining free agent hitters this offseason, if not a pitcher as well. If you’re frustrated with what the Mets have done, check in on the Yankees who’ve done very little other than re-sign Paul Blackburn, Amed Rosario, and Ryan Yarbrough.
