3 gripes NY Mets fans would be screaming at Steve Cohen if they had a '26 Amazin' Day

Last year's demand for Pete Alonso wouldn't compare to the amount of hollering if there was a 2026 Amazin' Day.

3) Steve Cohen would have to deal with a lot of personal criticism

Cohen is getting a casino, his wife is leaving social media, and the Mets seem less of a priority in his life at the moment. He was, of all things, once again accused of the dirtiest thing imaginable: growing up a Yankees fan.

Cohen can handle criticism over the Mets roster and the results. He just pays the bills. David Stearns is the one who has to eat the most crow for the results on the field. Cohen has opened up his wallet as much as anyone.

What could be more difficult is for him to get into some of the personal and business decisions he has made. The casino coming to Flushing has some relevance to the Mets because of the close proximity. A conspiracy theorist might suggest, and they’re out there, that the last five years were all about building up goodwill with the people of New York to eventually get the casinos built. The first black jack dealer hasn’t even been hired yet and already some fans are turning on Cohen.

It’s impossible to be an owner of any kind and not experience the kind of criticism Cohen is taking for the first time since becoming majority owner. He has been a favorite of the majority of the fans since replacing the Wilpons. How could he not? He was the antithesis of what they did. Only two playoff appearances in five seasons and a widely disappointing season in 2025, it seems as if way too much is happening right now for angry fans to not connect the dots on everything.

The Mets haven’t brought in the most desirable players, they’ve gotten rid of a lot of popular ones, and other parts of Cohen’s business ventures are going well.

Because of his business history, which hasn’t exactly been squeaky clean, anything he does is going to be viewed under a smudged microscope. You don't get to where he has with a clean suit.

Amazin’ Day is a great event for the fans. Frankly, with more negative around the team than positive at the moment, it’s for the best that there won’t be a gathering later this month.
