3 gripes NY Mets fans would be screaming at Steve Cohen if they had a '26 Amazin' Day

Last year's demand for Pete Alonso wouldn't compare to the amount of hollering if there was a 2026 Amazin' Day.

2) Mets fans would have reminded Steve Cohen about all of the favorites they let go

Amazin’ Day 2026 would have been filled with Pete Alonso, Edwin Diaz, and Brandon Nimmo jerseys. Heck, your weird friend down the street might’ve shown up in a Jeff McNeil shirsey. Failing to add is one thing. All of these subtractions have made it even more difficult for the average fan to accept what has gone on.

“Explain this to us, Uncle Stevie” would have been a question asked constantly throughout the day. Not even Cohen can justify all of what David Stearns has done this offseason. Even if you believe in the plan, you shouldn’t be 100% onboard with the way it has gone down.

The Mets did try to bring back Diaz. They have yet to replace Alonso’s offensive production and may very well look for someone who can improve them in other ways. They’re selling us that Polanco will be the Nimmo replacement at the plate while believing what Semien can do defensively more than makes up for the versatility of McNeil as well as the overall production.

It hasn’t been a disastrous offseason and yet it has been far from fan-friendly. More casual fans who sit out the offseason and wait for spring training will be shocked to see what the team looks like at the moment. Amazin’ Day is meant for fans of all levels. Your coworker whose mood depends on the result of a Mets game but can’t name more than 15 players on the roster at any given point would likely cause a scene and maybe a viral moment. He wouldn’t be completely wrong. It has been a difficult offseason and the turnover has been a lot to handle for many.
