Batting fifth Jose Ramirez, 3B

This is another one of those “we can debate where they hit” players. Jose Ramirez is probably a better number three hitter than Alonso, but let’s not create a controversy. The important thing is the Mets have their third baseman. Finally, after all of these years of dreaming, In this sleepy night, Ramirez requested a trade from the Cleveland Guardians and made strong hints about how badly he wants to play alongside Lindor again.

Now 33, Ramirez probably won’t be in the MVP conversation as regularly as he was a few seasons ago. He did still hit 30 home runs and drive in 85. A .503 OPS and only 8 more strikeouts than walks (66 vs. 74) continue to help his reputation as a fabulous all-around hitter. His defense remains steady. Although no Gold Gloves to his name, Ramirez has been an above average defender for most of his career.

The Guardians have another $69 million owed to Ramirez over the next three seasons. It’s not a ton for your average big league club. The thought has always been that with the frugalness they often display, they’d eventually want to get out from his contract. In our dreams, right?

This fantasy is so deep in the dream world Neil Gaiman couldn’t think it up. In fact, if Las Vegas has odds on it, you’re better off taking the idea of Alonso and Schwarber being on the same roster than this happening.
