This is something unprecedented for MLB teams. We've never seen a team release a documentary about how they signed a player. The documentary will answer some of the biggest questions surrounding the signing. Here's what we're hoping to see.
How involved was David Stearns
David Stearns has made many great moves since taking over as Mets president of baseball operations (PoBO). He's been responsible for lots of the under-the-radar pitching signings that have worked out big for the Mets. However when it came to the Soto signing, you rarely hear his name brought up. People are more likely to give the credit to Steve Cohen for the reason he signed.
However, as Mets PoBO, Stearns had to have some involved in the process. The owner is not going to sign a player without at least consulting the people he hires to make baseball decisions. Plus, in the trailer, we see Stearns talking about what going after a player like Soto means. From that comment, we can assume he played a big role in the process. This documentary will hopefully show the role Stearns played and give him the credit he deserves for signing Soto.
What were the players reaction to the move
Every Mets fan remembers where they were and what they did when Soto signed. This event will be talked about among Mets fans for generations to come. However, we never saw how the players reacted to the news. How did guys like Fransisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo react when they found out they were now teammates with Soto? This will humanize them and allow us to see they were probably just as excited as we were.
It would also be cool to get the perspective of players the Mets brought in during the offseason. This would be a way to measure how much the Soto signing has changed the perception of the Mets around the league.
What did the Mets proposal to Juan Soto look like
It appears the documentary will show us what the Mets' proposal to Soto looked like. We got hints throughout the trailer like Carlos Mendoza saying he was at the first meeting or Cohen talking about making the Mets feel like a family organization. It appears we will get a clear picture of what the proposal to Soto looked like. This will give us a clear idea of why he chose the Mets.
It will also be interesting to see why the Mets felt it was essential to include what they did in the Soto proposal. Why did the Mets feel it was so important to show the Soto the Mets are a family organization? This will give us an insight into how the Mets pitch the franchise to free agents and what Soto values about the organization.
No matter what is shown in this documentary it will be a must watch for any Mets fans.
