It’s for charity so we can’t say it’s wrong. Ted Dibiase said “everyone has a price.” Apparently every piece of New York Mets history does, too.
X user Robert Brender must’ve been looking to add some items to his collection when discovering a unique and one-of-a-kind item up for auction.
At a starting bid of $300 (with bidding already beginning), the Mets are auctioning off the chair from Bo Bichette’s press conference. Your mortgage can wait. This is something everyone needs but only one can win.
Let's hope there are more memorable pieces of Bo Bichette's Mets tenure than a chair
Whether you put it on display (don’t) or choose to sit on it, this is a different kind of auction item. It’s probably best suited for some sort of room dedicated to watching the Mets play. It must have some level of comfort. You don't have your $42+ player suffer lumbar pain in his introduction.
Other charity items include a foul ball hit by Bichette against Tylor Megill, a ball pitched by Lou Trivino that included a lineout by Francisco Lindor and single by Luisangel Acuna (rare!), and a game-used Eric Chavez hat. That last one is actually kind of fun. If you look closely enough, you can see the sweat stain form into an insult toward David Stearns.
It’s January so the best of the best items are certainly not included. It would appear this is an attempt to capitalize on some of the Bichette excitement. Just be sure that if you do win the bid you end up with the ethernet cord from Jorge Polanco’s introductory Zoom press conference or the light bulb Marcus Semien used to illuminate the room when he spoke to the media for the first time. How can you not have them all?
As an avid sports memorabilia collector myself back in the day, I’m not one to judge anything someone else believes is worthy for their room full of clutter. I’d hold out for something better, though. Sitting is slowly killing us all anyway.
