1) Fernando Tatis Jr.
This is probably the best-case scenario for the Mets because it immediately moves Juan Soto over to left field. Fernando Tatis Jr. won a Platinum Glove for his defensive efforts in 2025. His fat contract and all-around abilities make him one of the fast-rising stars in the game.
An injury and PED suspension in 2022 didn’t completely crater his career although he hasn’t quite been as MVP-caliber as he was in 2021. It was in 2023 when he officially moved to right field where he has now won two Gold Gloves in three tries. The offense remains productive. He’s more of an all-around type of player than someone who’ll have a singular statistic stand out. Because of this, some may overlook him.
The financial situation with the San Diego Padres is what makes Tatis available. They’re known to be looking to shed salary and his contract is one of the massive yet attractive ones. Running through his age 35 season in 2034, it’s not until 2029 when his contract begins to pay him over $30 million.
The timing is unique because Semien’s contract runs out after the 2028 season. It doesn’t automatically mean he’s someone the Mets are targeting. It’s just an extra point as to why he might be a top trade target and one of the more sensible guys to go after to an extreme.
TLDR: A fantasy to make come true.
