4) Byron Buxton

Mets fans have been talking about Byron Buxton a lot on social media. It would be the ultimate ironic way to go with lifelong Met, Nimmo, waiving his no-trade clause only for lifelong Minnesota Twins outfielder, Buxton, agreeing to waive his. The Twins sold off multiple pieces at the trade deadline. They’ll need approval from their star center fielder to make him one of the next to go.

Somehow only 31, Buxton is coming off of an exceptional 35 home run campaign. Long regarded as one of the best defensive players at his center field position, he rated just below Tyrone Taylor and Cedric Mullins last season. It’s not a big deal. What he offers offensively is incredible

The problem with Buxton is one of the same with Nimmo early in his career. Nimmo rarely stayed healthy for a full year. Finally, in recent seasons, he managed to do so. Not Buxton. He has three seasons of playing 100+ games. He has topped 400 plate appearances only twice with last year being his most.

The salary is reasonable at just under $15 million with incentives. The biggest reason not to trade for him is if you believe he’s not going to stay healthy. On the wrong side of 30 with this being such an important move for the Mets, he fails to crack the top three only because of how wrong this can go.

TLDR: His injury history is frightening.
