5) Steven Kwan

Steven Kwan actually seems to match the exact type of player David Stearns would like. He has won four Gold Gloves in as many tries. A lighter-hitting left fielder putting up some old-school style of numbers where he does everything well but nothing to great exception, he only falls low on this list because he’s not offering the Mets enough at the plate for what they’ve already lost.

Theoretically, the Mets could view it as a defensive upgrade and then pour an investment into a power-hitting first baseman. Would a threesome of Kwan-Marcus Semien-Pete Alonso be an upgrade over Nimmo-Jeff McNeil-Pete Alonso? It’s debatable.

Kwan isn’t getting traded by the Cleveland Guardians at a discount rate. Arbitration eligible for two more seasons, his salary is going up but not to the point where the Guardians will need to evacuate like they did back when Francisco Lindor was traded to the Mets.

A great player for what he does, it feels like there isn’t enough balance between what he can do at the plate to make up for what the Mets are losing with Nimmo heading over to Texas. One way to make it more acceptable would be something extreme like the Mets adding Alonso along with a monster at DH. Maybe in our dreams.

TLDR: It only works if there's a lot more offense added elsewhere.
