Ken Rosenthal believes it’s a trade that’ll help the New York Mets fill their outfield vacancy which opened up after the Brandon Nimmo trade. We should be prepared for all kinds of Mets rumors to get us through the holiday weekend. Included is a mention of just about every outfielder imaginable who could get traded away by their team.

As thin as the outfield market may be in free agency with Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger leading the way by a couple of miles, plenty appear available in trades. Not all will move and it wouldn’t be a complete shock to see all stay with their respective teams. The Mets could always get creative and pull something off that leads to a swap for someone who didn’t seem feasible or on the block at all.
Based on past rumors, speculation, and fit for the Mets, these six all make sense. Some match more than others.
6) Luis Robert Jr.
This won’t be the only Junior on the list (and I don’t mean Ken Griffey Jr., Tommy). Luis Robert Jr. is a pretty good match for the Mets. He plays good defense. He has age and upside on his side. He’s playing for a miserable franchise that better deal him away before he leaves for nothing or gets hurt and tanks any remaining value.
He finishes in last place on this list because there are way too many questions. Will he stay healthy? Is he going to hit .220 again? The contract isn’t even that appealing and with the way the White Sox have held onto him through last summer’s trade deadline, it doesn’t feel as if they’re going to part with him for the sake of getting rid of his salary.
Because it’s a corner spot now open, Robert is less of an ideal fit for the Mets. Tyrone Taylor should be a capable enough center fielder to begin the year. With the loss of Nimmo’s offense, the Mets need to have a surer thing at the plate. Robert isn’t it.
TLDR: There are better choices available.
